An award-winning researcher and NAACP Image Award nominee, Dr. Wendy Osefo is a Nigerian-American media personality and a highly sought-after progressive political commentator and strategist. Wendy is currently a cast member on Bravo TV’s The Real Housewives of Potomac and has appeared on other TV shows including CBS’s Beyond The Gates, Bravo TV’s Celebrity Wife Swap, and Project Runway. Prior to a career in entertainment, for over 10 years Wendy served as a professor at The Johns Hopkins University and Goucher College. In 2024 Dr. Osefo was named a Distinguished Professor at Wesleyan University where she created and taught a course titled “The Sociology of Reality TV”.
In addition to her experience in entertainment and academia, Dr. Osefo has been interviewed by, and provided commentary for several media outlets including CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, ABC, BET, PEOPLE, Essence, Black Enterprise, In Touch Weekly, and Entertainment Tonight to name a few. Additionally, Dr. Osefo has delivered keynote speeches and lectures on issues in culture, politics, wellness, faith, self-development, grief management, and mental health.
In 2021 Dr. Osefo authored her first book, Tears of My Mother: The Legacy of My Nigerian Upbringing where she explored the nuances of being a first-generation American and the lifelong impact of cultural expectations, parenthood, and immigration.
Coalescing her love for media and current events, Dr. Osefo launched “The Dr. Wendy Show” where she has interviewed notable figures including former White House Press Secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, the first Black Governor of Maryland, Wes Moore, United States Senator Angela Alsobrooks, television producer Mara Brock Akil, and two-time Grammy Award Winner LaTavia Roberson, to name a few.
Wendy has developed creative content for brand deals and partnered with Fortune 500 brands such as Essence, Coca-Cola, Prudential, Direct TV, and Amazon among many others. In 2025, Dr. Osefo was named a Power 50 Women of Influence honoree by The United States Black Chambers. She is also the recipient of the 2018 Black Women in Media News and Journalism Award, the 2018 recipient of the Woman of Vision Award, a 2017 recipient of the Johns Hopkins Diversity Recognition Award, the 2017 recipient of the Johns Hopkins University Outstanding Graduate Award, a Baltimore Business Journal 40 Under 40 Honoree, and a 25 Women To Watch Honoree.
Wendy holds a B.A. in Political Science from Temple University, an M.A. in Government from The Johns Hopkins University, and an M.Sc. in Public Affairs from Rutgers University. Dr. Osefo made history in 2016 when she became the first black woman to earn a Ph.D. in Public Affairs-Community Development from Rutgers University. Wendy is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated.
Dr. Osefo resides in Maryland with her husband and three children. In her free time Wendy enjoys travelling and playing tennis.
